I AM SO BAD, AND NOT SORRY!

When my 6th graders asked what they could bring for the Halloween party I said, "Anything you want."
"You mean -" gasp, dare they say it?, " candy?"
"This is Halloween. It ought to be fun."

I guess this underground rebellion is spreading. I found out I was not the only who decided that healthy food was out for Halloween. I am so glad, and I, for one, am not sorry.

You sound like the coolest teacher. As my kids would say... "sweet, she is letting us bring candy".

We got an after Halloween note from the distrct reminding parents and teachres about "healthy" snacks, and it too will be ignored.

What they needed to do was to stop the teachers who passed out candy to the kids like Pavlov. (I taught with somebody like that. I said she taught "by candy." That is stupid!) Candy at the infrequent school parites just isn't that big a deal.

I wish I had your kids. I know they are sweetie-hearts.

Our teachers do a lot of rewards with candy. I don't like it either. Whatever happened to doing your work because that is what is expected of you. My son had a major melt down one particular day because he forgot his homework so he wasn't going to get a piece of candy the next day...uuuugggghhhh!! They get plenty of candy at home.
However, candy at parties is expected. Who wants healthy stuff at a party. Now thats taking away the fun.
I wish my kids had you. This is a beautiful area with lots of great people. We do have an incredible Associate Pastor at our church. :) I think you would like the Midwest!!! You are welcome to move here anytime.

Ah, Joy, YOU get it. The whole bribing thing doesn't work. It is demeaning. Whatever happened to treat others (this includes kids!) the way you want to be treated? (I paraphrase.)

See you soon!
